Corte Madera is a town of roughly 10,000 residents, located in Marin County, California near Larkspur.  Prostitution and sex trafficking, including child sex trafficking, have been documented throughout Marin County. There have also been local cases of assault and murder of women in prostitution, as well as drug and child endangerment charges.

Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. For example, in June 2014, deputies from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and officers from several county police departments conducted a web-based reverse sting in Corte Madera, as well as in San RafaelMill Valley and Novato, as part of the FBI’s Operation Cross Country. Twenty-two sex buyers were arrested as a result; their identities were not released to the public.
