Bushland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place with a population of under 3,000 residents, located in southwestern Potter County, Texas, roughly 15 miles west of Amarillo. Identity disclosure and resulting employment loss of an arrested sex buyer have occurred in the community.

In April 2023, the Bushland High School head softball coach resigned following his arrest for solicitation of prostitution in Lubbock. He had been head coach for the past year. The man was arrested over the weekend as part of an undercover, multi-agency sting operation that resulted in more than 20 arrests, including 17 felony arrests for solicitation of prostitution and 7 arrests for misdemeanor prostitution. The operation was conducted by the Lubbock Police Department’s Special Operations Division, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lubbock Sheriff’s Department, and Lubbock Fire Department. Following his arrest, Bushland Independent School District published a statement on their website that explained the incident:

“Sunday, April 30, 2023, the District administration was informed by a teacher/coach that he was arrested on state charges of solicitation of prostitution in Lubbock, Texas on or about April 29, 2023. The employee immediately tendered his resignation and was directed by school administration not to return to District property.”
