Hudson Falls is a village of about 7,400 residents within the town of Kingsbury in Washington County, New York. It is located in eastern New York, approximately 50 miles north of Albany. Prostitution has been documented in the village. For example, in 2016 a local woman was arrested for prostitution in Kingsbury after being spotted by a landowner allegedly having sex outside a vehicle, which the informant reported to police.
The Hudson Falls Police Department has made opportunistic arrests of sex buyers. For example, in October 2017, a man was arrested and charged with “patronizing a prostitute” after he reported being robbed by a woman he had contacted for an alleged sex-for-pay meetup in September. The man allegedly arranged for the woman to come to Hudson Falls from Schenectady to perform a sex act, but she took his money and fled without doing so. His name, age, and other identifying information was released to the press.
There has been at least one reverse sting operation conducted in Hudson Falls. In July 2019, seven men were arrested in a multi-agency online sting conducted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson Falls Police, New York State Police, and the FBI. The Hudson Falls Police Chief said the FBI reached out to his agency earlier in the year to see if there was interest in working together on an operation seeking to arrest men who were interested in sexually abusing children under the age of 15. The seven men were arrested after attempting to meet with a minor for sex. The men’s charges included attempted rape, attempted criminal sex act, and at least two charges of patronizing a person for prostitution. Their names, ages, and hometowns were released to the press. Several other men responded to the online posting but did not show up in person at the arranged location. In December 2019, three of the men pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree rape and were sentenced to 18 months in state prison followed by 10 years on parole.
