North Greenbush is a town of about 13,000 residents located in Rensselaer County, just east of Albany, New York. Local law enforcement have participated in investigations into sex trafficking in the area. For example, in April 2021, the North Greenbush Police Department assisted in a multiagency investigation into child exploitation and human trafficking led by New York State Police. The investigation took place throughout the Capital District region and resulted in the arrest of fifteen individuals, though none of them were arrested in North Greenbush. Two of the men believed they were meeting 14-year-olds. The men were charged with patronizing a person for prostitution, and their identities were included in a press release. The agencies and units participating included the Troop G Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Troop G Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team, Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force from the Albany Division of the FBI, Rotterdam Police Department, North Greenbush Police Department, Colonie Police Department, East Greenbush Police Department, and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The District Attorney’s Offices of Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties were also consulted during this investigation.

The North Greenbush Police Department has engaged in at least one opportunistic arrest of a sex buyer. In May 2022, two people were arrested on prostitution charges after a fight in a North Greenbush home. North Greenbush Police responded to the home for a reported assault. Once there, police found that a man had hired a woman to go to his house to perform a sex act with him. According to police, a verbal argument broke out and the woman started yelling for help out of a bathroom window. Moments later, police said a man entered the home and began assaulting the sex buyer while the woman fled. During the incident, the sex buyer was slashed with a knife but suffered only a minor injury. He was treated by an ambulance and taken into custody. He was then charged with third-degree patronizing a person for prostitution, which is a misdemeanor. He was processed and released on an appearance ticket to return to North Greenbush Town Court at a later date. His name, age, and hometown were released to the public. The woman was also arrested and charged with misdemeanor prostitution, misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of a hypodermic instrument.
