Kingston is a town of approximately 6,200 residents, located in southern New Hampshire, near the Massachusetts border and about 15 miles inland from the Atlantic Coast. Prostitution and sex trafficking have been documented in the region, and in response, local efforts have included the use of demand reduction tactics. For example, in July, 2007, the Kingston Police Department conducted a web sting resulting in the arrest of six men. Police posted a decoy listing on Craigslist advertising sex; when sex buyers responded to the phone number provided, an undercover female officer arranged meetings. The men were promptly arrested when they arrived to complete the transactions. Some of the arrestees were known public figures, and select names were released to the media.
