Brookfield Township is one of the twenty-four townships of Trumbull County, Ohio and has a population of approximately 8,400. It is located in northeastern Ohio on the border with Pennsylvania, about 13 miles north of Youngstown. Though not a significantly recorded problem within the township, prostitution and sex trafficking have been well-documented, substantial problems throughout the county for decades, especially in Warren. A Brookfield woman was arrested in June 2017 for prostitution on Backpage.com and was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse instruments. Incidents of child sexual exploitation have occurred in Brookfield Township. For example, in 2010 a local man was arrested and charged with knowingly receiving and distributing child pornography (i.e., child sexual abuse materials) after FBI agents discovered 600 cd’s containing CSAM in his home. The man was already a tier three sex offender from a previous conviction in New York. In March 2022, two Brookfield men were indicted on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles after alleged sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl who had previously run away from home and was found with the two men.

At least two arrests of sex buyers have occurred in Brookfield. In December 2016, a Brookfield man was arrested and charged with solicitation after he reported that his car was stolen by a prostituted woman. The man called police to report that a woman he met on Backpage.com had stolen his vehicle after he passed out. He said he tried contacting the woman multiple times to get his vehicle back, but she would not return it, according to a police report. After an investigation, the man was charged with solicitation of prostitution. The report did not say whether his car was found. He was booked into the Trumbull County Jail, and his identity was disclosed in news reports.

In July, 2022, a man was arrested at a Brookefield residence and placed in custody in the Trumbull County Jail on rape charges, accused of sexually abusing a victim under the age of 13, and compelling prostitution of a minor after an indictment by a Trumbull County grand jury. According to the indictment, the crimes began in May of 2015 and continued through February, 2022. The man was scheduled for trial in February, 2023.  He was accused of compelling prostitution, for allegedly paying a minor for sexual abuse, between May 15, 2020 through May 14 of 2021. His other charges included

• raping a minor under the age of 10 years old, from May 15, 2017 through May 14, 2018.
• two counts of rape of a minor under the age of thirteen between May 15, 2019 through May 14, 2020.
• two counts of rape from May 15 2020 through May 14, 2021.
• gross sexual imposition from approximately May 15, 2016 through May 14, 2017 with a minor under the age of 13,
• numerous counts of gross sexual imposition from approximately May 15, 2017 through May 14, 2021.
