Woodway is a small suburb of McLennan County‘s city of Waco, Texas, with a population of approximately 8,900 residents.  Prostitution is a well documented problem in the city, and is closely linked with illegal drug abuse and trafficking.  Among the tactics used to disrupt commercial sex markets are those targeting consumer level demand.   For example, in June 2017 the Woodway Public Safety Department arrested nine suspects in a three-day operation targeting prostitution and other criminal offenses.  The operation focused on prostitutes that advertised their services online as well as on individuals responding to the ads.  One of the sex buyers was accused of arriving with a young child to meet a person he believed was a prostituted woman, and faced prostitution and endangering a child charges.  Another sex buyer led officers on a short chase after they attempted to arrest him on prostitution charges. He apparently lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle. The driver exited his vehicle with a large sword and a homemade shield before evading officers on foot. One officer was cut in the hand by the samurai sword, and required emergency medical attention. The identities of the persons arrested in the prostitution sayings  were released to the media.
