Westport is a coastal town located in eastern Connecticut with a population of roughly 26,000. In late 2010, officers from the Westport Police Department conducted a web sting after receiving a complaint about a Craiglist post soliciting sex in the Westport Library. Police then scanned the site for similar listings, and responded to those that explicitly offered money in exchange for sex. Undercover female detectives then contacted the men by phone, and arranged to meet. When the johns arrived, they were quickly intercepted by police. Two men were arrested— both had their names, ages and addresses released to the public.
