Waynesboro is a city located in Wayne County, Mississippi and has a population of under 5,000.  The South Mississippi Narcotics Task Force, Waynesboro Police Department, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department have responded to “an overwhelming amount of complaints about prostitution activity at a local motel” by conducting undercover operations. In April, 2017, a man was arrested after police say he allegedly ran a prostitution ring out of a Waynesboro motel. According to court documents, he was charged with one count of encouraging, inducing or otherwise intentionally causing another “to become or remain a prostitute;” one count of “soliciting a person to patronize a prostitute;” and one count of assisting or promoting prostitution.  During interviews conducted by the Waynesboro Police department, a woman told them that the man would rent rooms at a hotel and would solicit her and another woman for sex. Court documents said the situation was uncovered in March by a confidential informant. The investigation included searching phone records of one of the women. It has been reported that reverse stings have been conducted in the city.
