Troup County is a county of about 70,000 residents, located in west central Georgia on border with Alabama, roughly 65 miles southwest of Atlanta. The county seat is LaGrange. Prostitution and sex trafficking have been documented in the county.

Web-based reverse stings have been conducted to combat demand in the county. In October 2020, eleven people were arrested in a sex trafficking sting conducted by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation began when law enforcement identified online advertisements of prostitution and looked into who placed them. Commitments of sexual acts for money were made through phone calls and text messages, and individuals were arrested when they arrived at a pre-determined meeting place. At least five sex buyers were arrested during the operation and charged with pandering. Their identities were released to the press. Others arrested during the operation faced charges including possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, pimping, and prostitution. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Newnan Police Department Vice Unit, and Homeland Security Investigations assisted in the operation.

In July 2022, the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations, conducted an undercover sting that resulted in 19 arrests. A press release from the sheriff’s office said the goal of the operation was to target sex traffickers and those providing funding to them. At least four sex buyers were arrested and charged with pandering. Their identities were released to the press. Other charges included prostitution, loitering and prowling, possession of various drugs, and pimping.
