Tawas City is a city along Lake Huron in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Its population is approximately 1,800, and it serves as the county seat of Iosco County. The city is adjacent to Tawas Township but is administratively autonomous. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and local police have responded by implementing at least one demand reduction tactic. A law enforcement respondent to the 2021 National Assessment Survey reported that since 2005, public education has been conducted in Tawas City, specifically focused on the demand side of prostitution and sex trafficking (i.e., sex buyers).
