Riverdale Park is a town of approximately 7,000 residents, located south of College Park in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. Responding to complaints about prostitution from business owners and residents in the town, the Prince George’s County Police Department has conducted at reverse stings, some of them relatively large-scale (arresting between 12 and 27 men in each operation), since 1995. For each operation, female undercover officers posed as prostituted women. As men attempted to solicit sex from the officers, they were apprehended by a backup team.
