Pepin is a town of under a thousand residents in Pepin County, located along the banks of the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin, on the border with Minnesota. Prostitution and sex trafficking have not been well-documented within the city, but there have been consequences for a sex buyer on at least one occasion.

Identity disclosure and loss of employment are consequence of buying sex that have occurred within the city. For example, in August 2012, the Pepin school district’s athletic director resigned after being arrested in a prostitution sting in St. Paul, Minnesota. The man was one of several men arrested in the July operation and charged with a misdemeanor count of engaging in prostitution. His identity was disclosed to the press. The man had worked for the Pepin School District for 12 years, as a physical education teacher and athletic director. The Pepin School Board and District Superintendent accepted his resignation for “personal reasons.”
