Oxford is a village in Furnas and Harlan counties, in Nebraska. Its population is approximately 770. Prostitution activity has been well-documented in the area, and among the more serious crimes associated with the local commercial sex market is sex trafficking.  Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. Demand reduction tactics used in the town include arresting sex buyers and disclosing their identities. For example, in June, 2022, an Oxford man who was arrested and faced charges in an ongoing Furnas County sex trafficking case pleaded no contest to committing child abuse  and soliciting prostitution. The man was already facing charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child and labor/sex trafficking of a minor related to the incident, and had pleaded not guilty to those charges.  In September, 2021, an Oxford man admitted to committing child abuse in a Furnas County sex trafficking case. The man pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child abuse in Furnas County District Court. He was originally charged with three counts of sex trafficking of a minor. Two of the charges were amended to child abuse, and one of the charges was dropped. The incidents took place when the victim was 16 years of age. The man detailed how in 2019 he was painting a storefront he owns in downtown Oxford when a trafficker pulled up with the victim in his pickup, and she was wearing nothing below the waist. On another occasion, the trafficker asked the sex buyer if he wanted to see her naked, and lifted up the victim’s shirt and began touching her.  A few weeks later, the victim sent a Snapchat to the sex buyer, and the man later sexually abused the victim at least six times, paying $50 for each assault.
