Oak Ridge is a town of approximately 525 residents, located in northern Texas, in Kaufman County, about about 35 miles southeast of Dallas and 70 miles east of Fort Worth. Instances of prostitution and sex trafficking have been documented in the city. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and demand reduction tactics have been used in Oak Ridge. For example, in October 2022, the chief of the Oak Ridge Police Department was arrested and charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution. His identity was publicly disclosed, and he was quickly fired from his position with the police department. He had been arrested in Arlington Texas the prior week, KDFW reported. Detectives with the Arlington Police Department’s crimes against children unit began an investigation after a juvenile reported an incident involving the suspect, which led to the man being arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution from a person under 18. He was fired several days later.
