Monroe County located on the south eastern border of Tennessee, and has a population of about 47,000.  Its county seat is Madisonville.  Problems associated with prostitution and sex trafficking have been well documented within the county.  Among the tactics used to address these problems are those focusing on combating consumer-level demand.  For example, in May, 2021, six men seeking illicit sex with minors were arrested during an undercover operation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI’s) Human Trafficking Unit and other agencies.  The TBI said that during a two-day period in May authorities placed several decoy advertisements known to be linked to prostitution and commercial sex cases.  As a result of the operation, authorities arrested the six men and booked them into the Monroe County Jail on charges including trafficking for a commercial sex act and soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor.  The identities of the men were included in law enforcement news releases and and local media reports.  The TBI was also assisted by the Sweetwater Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the 10th Judicial District Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the office of 10th District Attorney General.
