McDonough is a city of approximately 29,000 residents located 30 miles southeast of Atlanta in Henry County, Georgia. Local law enforcement has reported prostitution and sex trafficking activity in the city and the handful of unincorporated areas that surround it. To address the issue, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office’s Flint Circuit Drug Task Force conducted a web-based reverse sting targeting both sex buyers and prostituted women in late August 2013. For the operation, officers “both answered and placed their own ads” soliciting sex on Backpage.com. Once communication was established, they arranged to meet the suspects at a local hotel. Eight sex buyers (and four sellers) were arrested; all had their identities released to the public.
