Mastic is a hamlet in the town of Brookhaven with approximately 15,000 residents, located in central Suffolk County on Long Island, New York. At least two prostitution stings have been conducted locally using undercover female and male officers as decoy sex sellers and buyers. The Suffolk County Police charged several men during each reverse sting and released the identities and hometowns of the men arrested. A sting that took place in 2019 led to the arrest of 11 people, who were charged with fifteen counts of trafficking. The arrested had trafficked at least 10 young women through force, fraud, and coercion. The Suffolk County Police Commissioner, Geraldine Hart, stated: “The takedown of this alleged sex trafficking ring in Suffolk County is crucial in stopping predators who target the vulnerable for financial gain, as well as support the victims in getting the necessary assistance they deserve.”
