Lancaster County is located in the Northern Neck area of northeastern Virginia. As of the 2020 census, its population was approximately 11,000.  Prostitution activity has been well-documented within the region. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and local law enforcement agencies have employed demand reduction tactics within the county. For example, in February, 2023, the Lancaster County Sheriff announced that a deputy charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution was no longer with the department. A Virginia State Police spokeswoman confirmed that the 28-year-old deputy had been arrested and was charged with one felony count of using a computer to solicit a minor and one felony count of solicitation of a minor for prostitution. The man had worked for the Sheriff’s Office for six years.
