Lafayette is a city of about 6,000 residents and is the county seat of Macon County, TN. It is located in the northern part of the state, roughly 60 miles northeast of Nashville. At least one web-based reverse sting has been conducted in the city. In April 2023, a 25-year-old Lafayette man was arrested after soliciting sex via Facebook from a female he believed to be 14 years old. According to the affidavit of complaint filed by a detective from the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, the man messaged an undercover Facebook account that was disguised to look like it belonged to a 14-year-old female. Although he was told the account belonged to a minor, he sent a photo of his penis to the account. The man also agreed to meet up with the minor on April 18, 2023 at 10 a.m. behind Walmart at the barn on Winding Stairs Lane, where he planned to pick her up, take her to his apartment, and pay her $150 to sexually abuse her. The man sent a message saying he was going to Walmart to purchase condoms before coming to meet the 14-year-old girl. Around 10 a.m., he arrived at the meeting place, where he was taken into custody. He was charged with patronizing prostitution, promoting prostitution, solicitation of a minor, and soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means. His identity was released to the press.
