Jasper is a city of almost 4,000 residents in northwestern Georgia, roughly 60 miles north of Atlanta. It is the county seat of Pickens County.

At least one sex buyer arrest has occurred in the city. In September 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit arrested a Pickens County man on charges of criminal attempt to commit the offense of human trafficking, criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, pandering, and sexual exploitation of children. Acting on a tip, the GBI began the investigation when they received information regarding the man’s potential involvement in a transaction involving the exchange of money for sexual contact with a child. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations assisted in the investigation, which led to a search warrant at a home in Jasper. Evidence collected at the man’s Jasper home revealed that on multiple occasions he had offered currency to an adult in exchange for sexual contact with a child who resided outside the United States. The man was taken to the Pickens County Jail and his identity was released to the press.
