Iberville Parish has approximately 30,000 residents, and is located south of Baton Rouge in Louisiana. Prostitution activity has been well-documented within the Parish, and the problems and ancillary crimes it generates results in complaints to law enforcement agencies from residents and businesses. For example, in 2010, the Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD) Task Force arrested two women on prostitution charges after receiving complaints of prostitution in the Grosse Tete area near the Tiger Truck Stop. At the time, local police said those were the first prostitution arrests in the parish since 1997 at a now-closed I-10 rest stop near Grosse Tete.
Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and demand reduction tactics have been used locally. For example, in May 1997, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office conducted the parish’s first street-level reverse sting. The 48-hour operation, which was conducted in and along rest stops abutting Interstate 10, resulted in the arrest of seven male sex buyers.
