Hesperia is a city of approximately 101,000 residents, located near Victorville in San Bernardino County, California. Prostitution and sex trafficking activity have been well-documented in the city and surrounding communities, and in unincorporated areas of the county.  This activity and the problems and ancillary crimes it generates results in complaints to law enforcement agencies from residents and businesses. Among the more serious problems associated with commercial sex in the area include child sex trafficking.

To combat prostitution and sex trafficking in the area, local law enforcement agencies have targeted consumer-level demand for commercial sex, which provides the revenue stream driving all commercial sex and trafficking. At least one web-based reverse sting has been conducted in the city. In August, 2018, eight men were arrested at a local hotel in Hesperia. The in-call motel reverse sting operation was conducted by the San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force along with deputies from the Hesperia Police Department. The operation was part of an ongoing effort through heavy presence and enforcement, to suppress prostitution throughout the desert communities of San Bernardino County, by targeting purchasers. During the operation, undercover officers were deployed at a motel in the 12000 block of Main Street to pose as prostitutes through on-line advertisements. The names of the men arrested in this sting were not released at the time of initial news releases.
