Guilderland is a town of approximately 35,000 residents in Albany County, New York, located between Schenectady and the state capitol city of Albany. Prostitution within the town has been well documented. For example, in September and November 2005, Guilderland police arrested several individuals in two incidents involving the act of prostitution.

To our knowledge, reverse stings have not been conducted in the city, but in one case, a sex buyer was arrested, and his identity was publicly disclosed. In November 2009, a 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor. The man had gone to the Guilderland Police Department to report that his money had been stolen by a 19-year-old male from Guilderland. An investigation revealed that the man had paid for a sexual encounter, and the prostituting person had stolen over $370 in cash from the buyer’s wallet.
