Goldsboro is a city of about 33,000 residents located in eastern-central North Carolina. Prostitution activity has been well-documented within the area, and the problems and ancillary crimes it generates results in complaints to law enforcement agencies. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. For example, in 2006, Goldsboro police conducted a street level reverse sting in an area where the city has received many complaints about prostitution, netting seven arrests of male sex buyers. Those arrested had their names, ages, and hometowns released to the public.
