Gallatin County is the third-most populous county in Montana, with a population of about 100,000, and the county seat in Bozeman.  Prostitution and sex trafficking are well-documented in the county, and in response, police have included operations targeting demand for commercial sex. In August, 2018 a web-based reverse sting operation was conducted that targeted human trafficking in Gallatin County.  Seven men were arrested after allegedly responding to advertisements posted on websites frequented for facilitating sexual contacts. Law enforcement officials say the operation focused on the targeting of demand for illicit commercial sex. During this operation, the advertisement received over 50 inquiries for various sexual acts and on the day of the operation, numerous “dates” were scheduled.  Sex buyers who arrived at the agreed-upon location met with an undercover law enforcement officer who posed as the trafficking victim. The identities of the arrested men were included in press releases. The operation was conducted by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Bozeman Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations.  Anyone with information regarding trafficking operations or victims of human trafficking is asked to contact the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office at (406) 582-2121, the Bozeman Police Department at Policetips@bozeman.net, or the Department of Homeland Security at 1-866-373-7888.
