Deuel County, Nebraska has a population of approximately 1,800, and is located directly north of the Nebraska/Colorado border. Prostitution activity has been documented within the county. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. Demand reduction tactics used in the county include reverse stings. For example, the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office took part in a combined operation with other local law enforcement agencies in May 2020 to combat prostitution in the area. According to reports, law enforcement sent in undercover officers to create fake accounts on a variety of social media platforms, dating apps, and websites. When buyers interacted with these profiles, plans were arranged to meet with them, where they were taken into custody. Upon arrest, the names, ages, and charges for each offender was released to the public and circulated among news outlets. In total, 15 men were arrested and charged.
