DeKalb County is located in the northwest portion of the Missouri. As of the 2020 census, its population was approximately 12,000. Its county seat is the city of Maysville, and other noteworthy communities include Stewartsville. Consumer-level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and demand reduction tactics used in the town include the arrest of sex buyers and the public disclosure of their identities. For example, in September, 2021, a local resident was arrested by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody on prostitution charges, including “Patronizing Prostitution with an individual from 14 to 18 years of age,” and “Harassment in the first degree.” The offenses were alleged to have occurred within DeKalb County. The man was held in the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail pending the filing of formal charges.
