Crockett is a city of about 6,500 residents in eastern Texas and serves as the government seat of Houston County. Instances of prostitution and related activity have been documented in the city. Public complaints regarding suspected prostitution-related activity in the city have generated responses from local law enforcement. For example, in November of 2016, officers with the Crockett Police Department arrested 37-year-old man in connection to allegations that he offered two women money in exchange for sex acts prior to sexually assaulting one of the women and exposing himself to the second woman. These were reported by the victims as two separate incidents. The offender was booked into the Houston County Jail on a felony sexual assault charge and two misdemeanors – prostitution and indecent exposure. The offender had approached one of the victims at her home and allegedly offered her $10 in exchange for sex acts. According to the affidavit, when the woman told him no, the offender grabbed the woman by her shirt and sexually assaulted her. In a separate incident, the offender entered a ladies’ restroom at Crockett’s IT Williams Park with his genitals exposed and offered the victim $10 in exchange for sex acts. The victim told the offender to leave her alone and ran out of the restroom. Officials conducted an investigation into the offender as a result of victim reports to police. The sex buyer was arrested and booked at the Houston County Jail, his total bond set at $29,000. The offender’s identity, photo, age, location, and chargers were released to local news sources.

Additionally, the Crockett Independent School District strictly prohibits board members/board member candidates from engaging in the offense of soliciting prostitution. Board members face disciplinary action if convicted of soliciting prostitution during their time on the board, and similarly, board member candidates will be disqualified if they have been convicted of soliciting prostitution.
