Corunna is a city serving as the county seat of Shiawassee County, Michigan. Its population is about 3,000, and the city is located in the central part of the state, between Lansing and Flint. Efforts to arrest sex buyers have occurred in Corunna. For example, in 2016 two brothers were arrested and charged with more than 15 prostitution-related offenses, including engaging in the services of a prostitute. The investigation found that one of the brothers paid for sex hundreds of times between 2010 and 2015. One of the men pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a $600 fine, court costs, and 80 hours of community service at the Greater Lansing Food Bank. The other faced more serious charges, including a felony charge of prostitution-pandering for allegedly using his position to coerce a woman who came to him for help with a child custody case to have sex with him for money. He had solicited prostituted women from websites such as Escort Vault and Backpage, paid for sex as often as three or four times a week, and was videotaped by one of the women. A year-long investigation by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the FBI and the Attorney General’s office, resulted in the charges.

In October 2020, the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department announced three people were arrested after showing up to a hotel expecting to sexually abuse with a teen between the ages of 13 and 15 years old. The three suspects were from Elsie, Corunna, and Pewamo. Their ages were 32, 18, and 45. All were speaking unknowingly with an undercover officer online. Another suspect showed up at the sting location but drove off before they were arrested. Undercover officers conducting the online sex trafficking operation spoke with about 170 different people during their investigation.
