Clyman is a village of about 400 residents in Dodge County, Wisconsin. Prostitution and sex trafficking activity have been well-documented in the city and surrounding communities, and in unincorporated areas of Dodge County. For example, the Sheriff’s office has expressed concerns over links to sex trafficking in a local strip club, and in April 2018 a man was charged with sex trafficking for allegedly using the club to force women to perform sexual acts for money that he kept.

In October 2018, a man pleaded “not guilty” to charges of allegedly paying a woman to perform sex acts on him at the same strip club in Clyman. He faced one misdemeanor count related to prostitution in Dodge County. The Dodge County Sheriff was reportedly in full uniform conducting a routine bar check at the club when he observed the man engaging in sex in a private room. The defendant continued to deny the accusations of prostitution, but had sex with the woman and admitted to giving her money. The Sheriff’s office expressed concerns over links to sex trafficking in the club, since earlier in 2018 another man was charged with sex trafficking for allegedly using the same club to force women to perform sexual acts for money that he kept. Since this was not a proactive sting operation intended to apprehend sex buyers, we do not categorize it as a reverse sting. But the arrested sex buyer’s identity was disclosed to the public by police, so we classify this as a community that has used the “identity disclosure” tactic.
