Clermont is a city of over 44,000 residents, located in suburban central Florida’s Lake County, west of Orlando and southeast of Leesburg. Prostitution activity has been reported in the community, and has generated complaints to law enforcement. Minors have also been recovered during anti-prostitution investigations in the city.

Local law enforcement have conducted at least one reverse sting in the community. In early June 2015, the Lake and Polk County Sheriff’s Offices announced the completion of a large-scale web-based reverse sting targeting sex buyers, as well as individuals attempting to engage in paid sexual abuse of children and women offering acts of prostitution. In just under two weeks, over 100 people were arrested after agreeing to meet undercover officers (alternately posing as prostituted women, sex buyers, and exploited minors) at a vacant Clermont home. It is unclear how many of those arrested were sex buyers; however, all of the arrestees’ names and mug shots were displayed in a joint press conference by the LCSO and PCSO. Sheriff’s deputies reported they received support from the Clermont and Mount Dora Police Departments when conducting the investigation. Officers also noted that among those intercepted for offering acts of prostitution were “two [female] high school students and a pregnant woman.”
