Clairton is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania of approximately 7,000 residents. It is located along the Monongahela River and is part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area. Despite the its small population size, instances of prostitution and sex trafficking activity have been documented in the city and surrounding areas. Among the more serious crimes associated with the local commercial sex market is child sex trafficking.
As a result of complaints from the community, reverse stings have been used to arrest male sex buyers since at least 1991, if not earlier. Once a sex buyer has been arrested, his name, age, and address are released to the media and may be published in local media outlets.
