Chicopee is a city of roughly 55,000 residents, situated along the Connecticut River in south-central Massachusetts’ Hampden County, near Springfield. Among their efforts to curtail prostitution and sex trafficking locally, the Chicopee Police Department has conducted reverse stings targeting sex buyers. For example, in early June 2015, a collaborative operation was conducted by CPD officers, Massachusetts State Police, and the Department of Homeland Security. During the sting, officers apprehended three male sex buyers after they attempted to purchase sex at a truck stop in the Burnett Road area. Following their arrests, media outlets reported the identities of each of the men arrested, and noted that none were local residents. Less than one week later, CPD detectives and DHS officers intercepted two additional sex buyers in a second small-scale reversal at the same truck stop. Both were charged with soliciting sexual conduct for a fee, and had their names and arrest photos publicized in press.
