Canton is a charter township of about 93,000 residents in Wayne County, Michigan. It is located about 10 miles west of Detroit and the same distance east of Ann Arbor. Prostitution and sex trafficking activity have been well-documented in the city and surrounding communities, and in unincorporated areas of the county. This activity and the problems and ancillary crimes it generates result in complaints to law enforcement agencies from residents and businesses. On at least one occasion, a sex buyer has been arrested in Canton. In  a 62-year-old man was arrested and cited for prostitution at a motel on Michigan Avenue and Lotz Road. The man told police he was in Canton for his 16-year-old daughter’s hockey tournament and admitted to coming to the hotel after finding an ad on Backpage.com. The man said he made an agreement with the woman for a massage with sex for $100. The woman told police that she had two ads on the site, one under the escort section and one under massages.
