Cameron is a city in central Texas with a population of roughly 5,400 residents. It is the county seat of Milam County, TX. Instances of prostitution and sex trafficking have been reported in the city. Among the more serious issues associated with the city’s commercial sex market is child sex trafficking. For example, in 2019, a Cameron man was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and online solicitation of a minor. The offender’s arrest was a result of two concurrent investigations, one by the Milam County Sheriff’s Office and the other by the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Unit. The MCSO’s investigation originated from a civilian report to a school resource deputy, whereas the OAG’s case originated from a cyber-tip posted to their online reporting system. Both agencies obtained warrants for the arrest of the offender. According to victim reports, the offender offered the victim money and/or alcohol in exchange for sex on multiple occasions. The offender’s charges include, compelling prostitution, trafficking a child/engaging in sexual conduct, both first-degree felonies, and online solicitation of a minor, a third-degree felony. The offender was arrested in Oklahoma and was extradited back to Texas where he was booked at the Milam County Jail with a bond was set at $275,000. The offender’s identity, image, age, locations, and charges were included in reports from local news sources.
