Benzie County is a Michigan county with a population of about 18,000. The county seat is Beulah, a village with a population of about 350 within Benzonia Township, at the southeast end of Crystal Lake. Prostitution activity has been well-documented within the county and generated complaints to law enforcement agencies from residents, but is not known to be unusually widespread. In February 2019 the Traverse Narcotics Team arrested three individuals in a prostitution investigation, including one sex buyer, and released their identities to news outlets.  One man was arrested and charged with engaging the services of prostitution and using a computer to commit a crime. The other two were charged with conspiracy, engaging in prostitution and using a computer to commit a crime, and all three were arraigned.  The Traverse Narcotics Team is a multi-jurisdictional task force comprised of officers from the Traverse City Police Department, Michigan State Police, and eight county sheriff’s offices (Wexford, Osceola, Missaukee, Antrim, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Benzie).
