Atlantic Beach is a town in Horry County, South Carolina.  It is located along the northeast coast of the state, approximately 100 miles north of Charleston, and its population is about 230. Most of the land around the town is annexed into the city of North Myrtle Beach.  Prostitution and sex trafficking are well documented throughout the county.  Community complaints of solicitation have led the Horry County Police Department to adopt new strategies in an effort to combat consumer demand throughout the county – including in the town of Atlantic Beach.  For example, in March, 2014, three people were arrested after Horry County police were called to a hotel to check on a man lying naked in a truck. According to the Horry County Police report, two men at the hotel on South Highway 17 in the Atlantic Beach area had paid $40 each to have sex with a woman in a truck. Police arrested all three people involved, and each was charged with one count of prostitution.   All three were released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with $2,500 bonds.
