Artesia is a small city of approximately 16,000 residents, located in southeast Los Angeles County, CA, near Norwalk and Cerritos. Though reports of prostitution in the community remain limited, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has collaborated with local police to reduce the demand for commercial sex in the city. For example, in late May 2015, sheriff’s deputies conducted a reverse sting in which female undercover officers posed as decoys along two major thoroughfares in Artesia. The investigation resulted in the arrest of five men, two of whom were arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution and three of whom were arrested and charged with pandering and attempted robbery. The identities of the arrestees were not disclosed to the public.
