Ansonia is a city in New Haven County, Connecticut.  It is located along the Naugatuck River, immediately north of Derby, and about 12 miles New Haven. Its population is about 19,000. Prostitution activity has been well-documented in the city and other communities in the area, which has generated complaints to law enforcement agencies. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. For example, in February, 2018, Ansonia police stopped two men who were leaving a home on Beverly Drive that was being investigated for prostitution activity and other potential crimes in response to numerous complaints to police about suspicious activity.  The men were both accused of patronizing a prostitute, and were released on $500 bond pending a subsequent appearance in Derby Superior Court. Their identities were included in news reports.  In March of 2018, police again responded to complaints about the same residence, and made an arrest of another sex buyer.
