Silver Creek is an unincorporated community of roughly 6,000 residents within Floyd County. It is part of the Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area in northwestern Georgia, about 65 miles from Atlanta. Prostitution and sex trafficking have been documented in the county for decades, leading the Floyd County Police Department to occasionally target sex buyers for arrest.

In August 2021, a Calhoun business owner was convicted following his arrest at a park in Silver Creek in March 2020, where he believed he was meeting a minor for sexual acts. The man initiated contact with the false profile set up by a Floyd County police officer on a platform commonly used to solicit prostitution in March 2020. The undercover officer messaged back and forth  with the man over two days, during which time the suspect asked for photos and to meet up for “car play.” The undercover officer told the man she was a 14-year-old girl and agreed to meet him at a local park. After his arrest, his identity was released to the press. A Floyd County jury found the man guilty on charges of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was acquitted of criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation.
