Shawnee is a city of approximately 68,000 residents, located in the suburbs of Kansas City, Kansas. The Shawnee Police Department has collaborated with officers from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office to conduct stings targeting sex buyers. For example, in May, 2020, following complaints from residents about prostitution activity in a Shawnee apartment complex, officers placed decoy advertisements selling sexual services online and in local newspapers. As men responded to the ads and agreed to meet, they were apprehended by police. In December 2010, the SPD and JSCO joined forces again, this time intercepting men as they attempted to solicit sex from an undercover female officer posing as a decoy. In total, 13 sex buyers from Shawnee were arrested. Men arrested for buying sex in Shawnee may – when eligible – attend the john school program in Kansas City, MO run by Veronica’s Voice.  Between 2008 and 2014, Shawnee sent men to the Johnz School program in Kansas City.
