Malabar is a town of approximately 3,000 residents in Brevard County, Florida. It is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Prostitution and sex trafficking throughout Brevard County is well documented, in Malabar as well as in Cape Canaveral, Cocoa, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Rockledge, Satellite Beach, and Titusville.
Consumer-level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. For example, in November 2012, four men were arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution charges. Investigators stated they were caught attempting to pay for sex in Malabar. The operation was conducted by police in response to community complaints. Agents released a video of four takedowns that happened inside a Malabar motel room just off Interstate 95. One of the suspects was an associate professor at Brevard Community College. Another suspect told police he was a retired drug enforcement agent. The four men were booked into the Brevard County Jail on solicitation charges.
