Kirtland is a city in Lake County, Ohio with a population of about 6,800 residents. Instances of prostitution and sex trafficking have been documented in the city and surrounding area. Among the more serious issues associated with the local commercial sex market is commercial sexual exploitation of children. For example, in 2013, the head coach for the girl’s basketball team at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy was fired after his arrest during an online prostitution sting. The former coach was one of 12 men arrested for soliciting prostitution. The operation was conducted by the Willoughby Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

In response to a survey conducted in 2021 by the NCOSE team for a National Institute of Justice grant to update and expand Demand Forum (Grant #2020-75-CX-0011), representatives from the Kirtland Police Department reported that they have used surveillance cameras meant to deter sex buyers or gather evidence (since 1995, Lakeland Community College Police Department).
